2022 NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano admitted that he is two-faced, a label given to him by rival Kyle Busch.
While there was not much on the line in Sunday’s Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, there is already a developing narrative of rivalry between the two most successful drivers in the series. The drivers involved are none other than the 2022 Cup champion Logano and Busch.
There were 16 caution flags in the event, one of which was caused when Logano turned Busch in Turn 4. Busch, unhappy with how Logano raced against him called him “two-faced” and an “a–hole on the racetrack”. He even sent a warning to the 2022 champion suggesting that retaliation will be on its way during the course of the season.
“Still hurts, I’ve never felt as bad” – Denny Hamlin calls for bumper changes from NASCAR
Logano responded to Busch’s comments by admitting that he made a mistake and he is in fact “two-faced” but then he is doing what it takes to win a race.
“Am I sorry? Yes, I am. Am I two-faced? Yes, I am. And do I think anything’s wrong with that? No, I don’t,” Logano said. “… I’ve said it throughout my career, I’ve heard Kyle say it before that I’m two-faced, and that’s fine. I have a switch that I flip when it is time to go racing. I am out there to win, and yes, I have to do what I’ve got to do to win. I made a mistake, I didn’t want to do that. But I still am going to be an intense racer no matter what.
“Luckily, I know how to shut that off to where when I get out of the race car, in Kyle’s words, I’m not a complete a-hole all the time. That’s better than being an a-hole 100% of the time. At least it’s only when I’m in the race car. So that’s where I’m at with it. Am I two-faced? I agree with him, 100%. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
With some history between the drivers regarding on-track run-ins, it will be interesting to see how Busch will react to the incident after openly suggesting that he could retaliate. While the proper season is yet to begin, it seems that it will already make an interesting battle between the former Joe Gibbs Racing drivers.
