Petty GMS has officially rebranded to Legacy Motor Club for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season, they announced on Wednesday.

New co-owner Jimmie Johnson announced he will drive the No. 84 for Legacy Motor Club in the Daytona 500 and selected races.

Johnson’s first event is attempting to qualify for the Daytona 500, his other races are still TBA, as are sponsors and crew chief.

Richard Petty on the team’s new name: “As we were all talking about creating a new name for the team, we looked at Jimmie, myself, and Dale Inman – that’s 22 championships – so there couldn’t be a better name to fit our race team than Legacy.”
