Joey Logano is of the opinion that Kurt Busch didn’t get the recognition he deserved in a recent award ceremony.

Logano is one of the best drivers in the Cup Series right now and he solidified that position by winning his second Cup Series championship.

When NASCAR honored Logano at the 2022 NASCAR Awards, the 2022 champion mentioned a lot of people expect one who he thought deserved special praise. However, he rectified his mistake him mentioning Kurt’s place in his development. Given that Kurt was not honored in the ceremony, Logano’s comment appeared to be a sly dig at NASCAR.

“You know my relationship with Kurt is a competitor… When I came in as a rookie, Kurt was one of the few people who actually talked to me. To me, it said a lot about his character and I got to spend time with him over the years,” Logano said.

“What I’d say is his involvement in the driver advisory council, he was the most impactful person… Especially when he got hurt, he was all in, like… He took that time to really grow our sport. Shows to me a true champion, a true Hall of Famer. Like you said we should’ve honored him tonight…”

Later journalist Kelly Crandall clarified what Logano meant. She said that Logona believed the sport should have acknowledged Busch’s career.

Kurt missed a big portion of the 2022 season after he was involved in a qualifying crash on July 23 at Pocono Raceway. He missed all the races after that due to the concussion-like symptoms he developed he developed from the crash.

So the 2004 champion decided to retire from full-time Cup racing.

  1. I met Kurt when I lived in Las Vegas before he became famous. I liked him then and followed him ever since. Joey’s comments are good ones. Kurt may get some “tar” on him because of his more vocal and volatile brother, Kyle. I’m sad to see Kurt retire, but glad he is wise enough to know when it’s time!
