NASCAR fans don’t like the fact that the “Most Popular Driver” is presented by Chase Elliott’s sponsor, Hooters.
It is a well-known fact that Hooters is Elliott’s primary sponsor for three races each season. The deal was extended in 2021 through 2024. As a part of the deal, Elliott is seen running races with Hooters colors.

So, when NASCAR announced the opening of the pools for this year’s Most Popular Driver award, many fans were not pleased that the award was presented by Hooters.
They went as far as saying that the award is rigged and Elliott is certain to with it, given the association of the award with his sponsor.

LMFAO! Most Popular Driver contest sponsored by the sponsor of the guy who was going to win it in the first place

I think I speak for everyone. This is a waste of time. Everyone knows Chase Elliott will win it because half the NASCAR fan base is so biased it has become pointless just like when Dale Earnhardt Jr won it all the time.

Despite that, Elliott is generally a favorite to win this award. In fact, the 2020 champion has won this award for the last four editions.
Prior to Elliott’s dominance in the award, Dale Earnhardt Jr. won it for 15 consecutive seasons, from 2003 to his retirement in 2017. However, the driver with the most wins is none other than Chase’s father, Bill, who won the award for a record 16 times.
Elliott has a long way to go if he wishes to match his father in this regard.
