In a controversial penultimate race of the Xfinity season, Ty Gibbs won the race at Martinsville Speedway but it came at the expense of his teammate Brandon Jones.

Jones was infact leading when the incident happen and not only he lost the chance to win the race but he finished eighth, meaning that he was also knocked out of the Championship 4 race.

After the race, not many fans were happy with Gibbs’s action and the driver received heavy boos from them as he celebrated his win.

As the team owner and the grandfather of Ty, Joe Gibbs had to make a statement. He said that there will be consequences for his grandson but didn’t specifically mention what that would be.

There’s a lot to it. We’re trying to – as a family and as a race team family – we’re trying to work through every single part of that. We’re still going through it, because it isn’t easy, everything that happened.

“We want to go about this the right way, and we are walking – I am and our family is – with Ty as he walks through all of this.

“When tough things happen, and certainly nobody wanted that to happen, I said, now there’s consequences, and so we’re trying to walk through those with him. I was also there, and so I think a lot about that, too. There’s things that I could have done a better job of.”

The fact that Ty already had a spot in the Championship 4 race by points earlier in the race makes it even harder not just for Jones but for the team too, as they would have two drivers competing for the championship instead of one.

“Yeah, I think being aware of the circumstances is one thing. But there’s other things there, too,” he said. “It was something that was heat of the battle. Everything is taking place. There was so much going on,” Joe Gibbs added.

“I feel like I could have handled it better. I think that’s it. All of us certainly wish that it had never happened. We think the world of Brandon and his dad, J.R., so we’re just kind of committed to at this point go through all of this and try and do it in the right way.”

Ty, who has 10 wins now in 50 starts, will be competing with the likes of Noah Gragson, Josh Berry and Justin Allgaier for the title. As for Jones, he move to JR Motorsports in 2023.

  1. Joe Gibbs should leave Ty in Xfinity series next year. Not the cup series. Ty Gibbs won’t be able to take the punishment that the big boys will give Him. Ty is still to immature.Good driver but not ashamed of His actions.

  2. Believe it when I see it. PERIOD. Gibbs has said he would do something with him before too. He’s getting worse, not better. Seems to me there are no consequences or he would change

    1. Bailey Dog Racing

Selfish little brat was afraid of being shown up if Jones went to Championship 4 and won, Ty wouldn’t be the GoD’s gift to Grandpa Jo any more if he didn’t go to Phoenix and win the title, he has his title, Punk-a$$ Entitled Brat…

  3. He is just a little b**** and shouldn’t even be driving a car I can’t wait till he try something like that in the cup series and gets his little f****** ass beat he’s bad name for the sport kind of makes you not even want to watch anymore with assholes like him on the track he’s going to kill somebody one day

  4. Quite the entitled young man. Selfish, non caring, knows there will be no consequences for his actions. Caned apologies ” I’ll try and do better and learn from my mistakes “.

  5. Gibbs thinks an an apology after dumping a teammate just shows he has no idea what it is to work as a team nor does he care about anyone but himself. He is an entitled, immature little rich kid who thinks championships are handed out based on who he is. Karma is a bitch and she bites hard. You now have a big target on your back and boy do you deserve it.

  6. If nascar really wanted to make a statement they would have taken the win from Gibbs and put Brandon Jones in the championship 4. That would send a message.

  7. I’d have handled the punk weeks ago if I was Sam in the #1 car. None of these other young drivers stand up to his antics including Brandon.
