On Thursday the National Motorsports Appeals Panel reinstated the 25 points William Byron had been taken by NASCAR for intentionally spinning playoff rival Denny Hamlin at Texas Motor Speedway.
William Byron is now fined $100,000 and issued no points penalty.
A three-person panel found that Byron did break a NASCAR rule for spinning Hamlin under caution. However Hendrick Motorsports had filed a appealed which was originally a $50k fine and most importantly the deduction of 25 critical points in the playoffs race.

The 24-year-old will now enters Sunday’s elimination playoff race at Charlotte 14 points above the cutline.
Austin Cindric and Chase Briscoe were both tied for eighth py in the standings prior to the Byron penalty and now they are 12 points below Daniel Suarez, who now sits in eighth, the final playoff spot.
The National Motorsports Appeals Panel did not give a reason for it’s decision and NASCAR cannot appeal the panel’s final decision.
The debate surrounding Byron’s action at TMS last September was because the NASCAR officials in the scoring tower missed the intentional spin of Hamlin.
