Denny Hamlin eventually got the moment for his much-anticipated payback against Ross Chastain after being a victim of the Track House Racing driver on multiple occasions.

The two drivers were battling  for the lead with 18 laps left in Sunday’s M&M’s Fan Appreciation 400 at Pocono when Hamlin ran Chastain into the wall, causing the Chastain car to crash and spin out ending his day.

The wreck halted Ross Chastain’s bid for a third Cup Series victory in 2022. Chastain’s car was taken to the garage following the incident.

In his post-race interview Denny Hamlin talked about how he raced Ross Chastain late at Pocono.

When asked if that was straight payback to Ross Chastain Hamlin replied.

“What’d you want me to do? What’d you expect me to do?” Hamlin told the USA Network broadcast. “We got position on him, and he just ran out of race track.”

We’re Just gonna keep racing hard until we respect back from these guys it’s not just that we’ve been wrecked four times, twice while leading in the last ten months.

That was Hamlin’s thirdvictory this season and his 49th win overall level with Tony Stewart.

Denny Hamlin had been contemplating revenge on Chastain for some time now. Hamlin sent out warnings to Chastain after an incident at World Wide Technology Raceway in early June. 

Chastain explained that he felt he had a hit coming to him given the drivers’ history, however, he wasn’t sure the score had been settled.

“I think that’s something that has been owed to me for a few months now,” Chastain told USA.
