“William’s got a payback coming to Joey” – Jeff Gordon sure that Byron will take revenge on Logano

Hendrick Motorsports vice chairman Jeff Gordon is sure that William Byron will take revenge on Joey Logano at some point in the season.

Logano got his first Cup Series victory of the season at Darlington Raceway. However, he did a bump and run on then-leader Byron to clear him out of the way en route to his win. As a result, Byron finished 13th and called out Logano as an “idiot”.

Logano reacted in the interview by saying that his move was a reaction to Byron’s nudging him after the last restart. However, not many are convinced with Logano’s viewpoint, including the Hall of Famer Gordon.

“It’s unfortunate to see a win be taken away from him on the last lap like that,” Gordon said. “You know, Logano’s aggressive. And, I mean, William’s car, I believe, was getting really, really loose. So, Logano had a shot at him to do it clean and chose to do it a different way. That’s Cup racing, and this was a wild day and tore up a bunch of cars.”

Gordon was asked if what Logano did was fair. However, he chose to answer this question by telling that Byron will have something similar for Logano in the future.

“I wasn’t in the car. I’m not driving. Those guys have to settle that out there. I would have liked to have seen it done differently. I’m sure Joey’s going to justify it, and William’s got a payback coming to Joey, I’m sure, at some point. So that’s the way it works.”
