NASCAR has informed Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin that he must complete sensitivity training and the process must be started by the end of this week.
Denny Hamlin tweeted a clip from the show Family Guy that shows an Asian driver cutting off cars without signaling. In the clip, he had Kyle Larson’s name superimposed over the driver as a way of making fun of the HMS driver.
Hamlin has apologized for the insensitive tweet that he posted on his Twitter account on Monday but that was not enough to prevent NASCAR ordering Hamlin to complete sensitive training.
It’s worth take notes that Kyle Larson’s mom is Asian-American so it might come off as an issue.
Hamlin issued an apology and removed the thread late Monday night, writing on Twitter, “I took down a post I made earlier today after reading some of the comments.
It was a poor choice of memes and I saw how it was offensive. It came across totally wrong. I apologize.”
A NASCAR spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that NASCAR alerted Hamlin that he must complete sensitivity training and the process must be started by the end of the week.
Denny Hamlin’s tweet with an Asian meme last night has resulted in a NASCAR order to complete sensitivity training. NASCAR says it has told Hamlin he must begin the process by the end of this week.
