“I wanted to be close enough with the white (flag) to just take a swipe at him, but the lapped cars kind of got in the way and I lost a little bit of ground,” Harvick said.

“We kept chipping away at it and they had the right strategy to win the race and just wound up one short,” he said. “We finally had a day where nothing went wrong. Cars have been fast. Had a shot there at the end.”

Harvick said Sunday Toyota Owners 400 was the first clean day of racing of the 2022 season. The 46-y-o went on to say that if not for the lapped cars he would have had a go at leader Denny Hamlin.

“It was really the first clean day that we’ve had all year. The cars have been fast and [we] had a shot there at the end. the lapped cars kind of got in the way and I lost a little bit of ground.

“ Still, it’s a great day for us and hopefully a little bit of momentum in a positive direction,” Kevin Harvick said.
