In his maiden short track racing event, things didn’t go well for the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship Austin Cindric.

Every NASCAR driver has his share of bad and embarrassing moments. As for Cindric, it came in a short-track racing event, in which he said that he infact was going in the opposite direction of the lap.

“I was getting told how to go out on the race track, what to do and how to drive the car. Finally I got told, ‘make sure you turn left on the race track’. Just kind of as a joke and I took it very literally. I turned left onto the race track and started making laps backwards. Did about five laps before they waved me off and told me I was actually going backwards. So my first laps around the Roval was going the wrong way.”

Cindric has grown from the moment to winning the Xfinity Series in 2020, making it to the playoffs again in 2021 and now soon to race full-time in the Cup Series from the 2022 season. He is replacing Brad Keselowski for the No. 2 car in Team Penske.

Cindric will just be a rookie in the coming season but high things are expected from him going forward. And there is no doubt that he will grow under the guidance of his senior teammates Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney. It is going to be a huge year in terms of learning and gaining experience for Cindric.
