Kyle Larson may be best in winning races in the Cup Series but as per his own admission, he is not good at mentoring other drivers.

Larson took the Cup Series by surprise by turning in a dominant performance race after racer, culminating in 10 wins including the 2021 Cup Series championship.

While a champion is linked with leadership skills not just for themselves but to mentor other drivers in their team. However, Larson admitted that he lacks the latter characteristics. Having celebrated his Championship win in his hometown of Elk Grove, the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports driver spoke about a number of things and one of them was about his mentorship skills.

“I don’t think that I mentor anybody,” Larson said.

“It’s hard for me to articulate what I do in the car and talk or explain it.”

“I was accepting of the fact that I probably won’t ever race in it again,” – Larson happy to be given a second chance

He gave a reason to this claim by pointing out that he could not coach HMS teammate Chase Elliott during the midget race at Merced (California) Speedway.

“..even with Chase Elliott this week in the midget, I don’t feel like I’m a good coach.”

While he might not be a good mentor, but that is not the criteria that Larson needs and he is already equipped with what is most necessary – the ability to win races.

“Now that I’m a champion, it’s going to explode” – Kyle Larson on making an impact on NASCAR
