Kyle Larson made his 2021 NASCAR Cup Series championship win look easy but there were a lot of challenges the Hendrick Motorsports driver had to face.

Larson was undoubtedly the best driver in the Cup Series. After all, he has 10 Cup race wins, including the 2021 championship title to show for it. However, there were a lot of hurdles along the way which the No. 5 driver dealt with.

Recently, he was asked about the most challenging part of his 2021 season to which he replied:

“The most challenging part of our season was the race at the Roval. That would probably be the second coolest win that we had besides the championship win. So, let’s call it the third best win. Just the perseverance we had to have as a team to get through that race with the battery and alternator issue. Cliff [Daniels] leading everybody through, getting that change fixed.

“Then, not ever thinking that I had a shot to win, even once we got repaired. I was just trying to get away and get through there and get onto the next round, then we happened to win. So that was a very special, proud moment as a driver, all the hard work it took to get that done.”

Larson is going to participate in a number of racing events before he starts the defense of his title. He will be joined by teammate Chase Elliott for the USAC National Midget Championship Hangtown 100 at Placerville (Calif.) Speedway on November 18-20 and then the racing event at Merced (Calif.) Speedway on November 23-24.
