Kyle Larson may have won the playoffs race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway but he had to overcome some issues which could have cost him not just the win but a spot in the next round of playoffs too.
Larson had to face some electrical issues during the race, which forced his team to change the battery and alternator belt. The issue was more concerning because Larson might have actually missed out on the next round. He revealed this fear of having a sad end to his season while he was still racing.
“When I was having my issues, I was kind of sad and depressed. That this would be how my season was going to end, where we didn’t really have a crash or mistake on our part. Just something kind of freak happens, just had a lot of emotions but it all worked out.”
Fortunately for the No. 5 driver, he overcame those issues and even went on to win the race. He took the lead with eight laps to go, passing by Denny Hamlin in the final restart. Hamlin though had already booked a spot for the next round, courtesy of his win at Las Vegas.
The comeback win Larson had at Charlotte further solidifies his bid to claim his first Cup Series championship.
