Joe Gibbs Racing has drivers’ seats to fulfill for the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.
Among the current Xfinity driver’s crew for JGR, only Brandon Jones is set to return to his No. 19 Toyota for the next season. The two drivers Daniel Hemric and Harrison Burton are set to depart from the team.
Hermic will join Kaulig Racing’s Xfinity Series team while Burton will make his way to the Cup Series to driver for Wood Brothers Racing.
Also, having reached his goal of 100 Xfinity wins, Kyle Busch is set to discontinue his tradition of driving five races each year for the team. So, JGR are facing the possibility of bringing in three new drivers for No. 18, 20 and 54 Toyota.
One of the options for the No. 54, vacated by Busch, could be Bubba Wallace. He drives for JGR-affiliated 23XI Racing in the Cup Series and racing five races in the series will only do him well in terms of being sharp for Cup races.
Another driver who could be good for one of the JGR Xfinity cars is John Hunter Nemechek. When Nemechek left Cup Series ride at Front Row Motorsports to drive the #4 Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck Series, it didn’t make much sense to drop down levels. However, he has done well in the Series five wins and is one of the favourites to win the Series. Also, he recently drove the No. 54 JGR car in the Xfinity Seris at Talladega Superspeedway.
Finally, another driver who would be suitable for the JGR team is Ty Gibbs. He already has three wins as a part-time driver in the Series. At 19 years of age, he has a lot of room to grow and signing such a talent would be a great addition to the team.
