Austin Cindric on whether he has advantage over AJ Allmendinger in the playoffs

Austin Cindric was asked whether he has the advantage over AJ Allmendinger in the playoffs due to his past experience.

Cindric has been in the playoffs and even won the championship last season. Allmendinger is still looking to go beyond the first round of the playoffs. But having won the regular-season championship ahead of Cindric, Allmendinger has every chance to make it until the final race this season.

But will his relative lack of playoff experience cost him? Cindric doesn’t think so. When asked whether he had any advantage over Allmendinger, Cindric replied:

“I think yes and no. Mostly no, I mean, he’s a professional. He’s done this his entire life and a lot longer than I’ve been driving race cars. So I’m not particularly concerned about racing just one individual car.

“For us, it’s the road to Phoenix. Nothing else really matters, so that’s their biggest mountain to overcome and it’s our biggest mountain to overcome. If we get into the Final 4, I think perhaps, that’s more of an appropriate time for that question. I’ve been in the Final 4, I feel like I know what mentality I need to take to do that, but the hardest part about this playoff is getting there.”

While Allmendinger won the Xfinity regular season championship, Cindric still finished the regular season with the most wins, five. But regardless of the consequence in the Xfinity Series, Cindric will be plying his trade in the Cup Series driving the No. 2 car for Team Penske next season.
