Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch doesn’t seem to be happy with the Next Gen Car that will debut in the Cup Series in the 2022 season.

Prior to its scheduled debut, Next Gen Car went through a number of tests in different locations. A number of Cup drivers tested the car, but Kyle was not one of them.

Nonetheless, he was very clear about his opinion and called the Next Gen, “a step in the wrong direction.

“Yeah, I’ve kind of seen it, but I haven’t driven it,” Busch explained. “From my vantage point, when you take out all of the ability for race teams to be creative and ingenuity, the engineering aspect, everything is gone. It’s just a race of engine development, I guess, that’s all the manufacturers have any say over the new car, is what engine is in it and what their engines do and that sort of stuff. I’m not necessarily a fan of it, I think it’s a step in the wrong direction, but it’s what we’ve got.”

Kyle could possibly be the first driver to openly criticize Next Gen car. While whether he likes it or not, Kyle is a part of the series, which will be using the Next Gen car from next season.

As for now, he is heading to the playoffs, with the expectation of adding to his two championship titles. He is seeded as the fourth driver with 2022 points.
