Matt Kaulig, Executive Chairman of the Kaulig Companies Limited, said that their first Cup victory makes them a successful team.
Thanks to AJ Allmendinger, Kaulig Racing now have their first-ever Cup victory. As they plan to have a full-time Cup entry next season, their goal this season was to get familiar with the series through limited starts this season.
Despite Hamlin failing to win the Indy Road Course, it was good in the end for him for this reason
But even in the limited opportunity, they now have managed to get a win. With the win, Kaulig believes that the win legitimizes them as a successful team and that they will get better after the win.
“We knew putting AJ in the car every week at these road courses would actually give us a chance to run really well, and so it’s not an announcement to the sport or to other teams that we’re here,” Kaulig said . “We’ve been here — we feel like we’ve been here and growing towards winning this championship in the Xfinity Series and then being able to compete in the Cup Series.
“But what it does allow us to do is it more legitimizes us as a successful race team. It’s better for your employees, it’s better for your drivers, it’s better for your crew chiefs and engineers. It allows you to get more and better people. It allows sponsors to trust that you’re going to show up and be great.
“So, for me, it shows that more than anything, and that’s what I’m really happy about. All the success that we’re having on the track, I get happy for all of our teammates, but it’s growing our business as Kaulig Racing. So that’s really exciting.”
The race at Indianapolis was Kaulig Racing’s sixth Cup start this season. While it was not an easy win, as it needed some help from a penalized Chase Briscoe taking out leader Denny Hamlin for the third-placed Allmendinger to win the race. Nonetheless, the win will be a major boost for the team for their future in the Cup Series.
