Helio Castroneves a driver who was contracted to race in Superstar Racing experience (SRX) recently won the prestigious Indy 500.
SRX racing was envisioned as a series more for the racing greats whose best days of racing were past them but who still possessed the determination to race at six of America’s classic short tracks in identically prepared cars.
Tony Stewart sends out driver warning to drivers ahead SRX debut
When Stewart sent out invitations to drivers, he might not have imagined that he would have the recent Indy 500 winner within his ranks racing for his series. But Castroneves shocked the field when he won the Indy 500, with Stewart watching.
“I’m sure we’re all going to have special passes just to be allowed on pit road next to him now that he’s a four-time winner of the Indy 500,” Stewart said about Castroneves. “His head will be swollen, he’ll be lucky to get that helmet on over that head and we all know how much he loves his hair and wants to protect his hair.
“All joking aside, to be only the fourth four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 and having him with the SRX Series is all something we are extremely proud of for his accomplishment and we’re excited to bring him back to reality and show him it’s not going to be that easy for the next six weeks.”
Castroneves is only the fourth driver to win the Indy 500 four times. Stewart, in contrast, could not win the prestigious race in five tries.
