Martin Truex Jr. has shown to be a serious contender for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series championship.
He has already won three Cup races this season and in doing so, he is the only driver so far to register multiple wins in the Cup Series. While his teammate Denny Hamlin leads the series standings, the No. 11 is yet to win his first race this season.
Speaking about his driver, Toyota Racing Director David Wilson said why it is not good to underestimate the No. 19 driver on the race track.
“For him as a driver, having a car where you’re off throttle time is as much or more when you’re on throttle time. Having a car that’s just difficult to drive, he loves that challenge. I think Martin is one of those drivers who flies under the radar.
“He’s pretty soft-spoken, but if you don’t think that he is one of the very best on the race track, then you’re dead wrong.”
Wilson was full of praise for his driver for his latest victory at Darlington, especially on how he beat Kyle Larson who was giving him a good run for the money.
Last season was the first time since 2016 that Truex failed to make it to the Championship 4. But this year, he has already better his regular-season wins with a lot to race for in the season.
