Bubba Wallace on his learning trajectory with 23XI Racing

Bubba Wallace hasn’t had the most solid of starts as he would have expected with his 23XI Racing team.

There was a lot of hype when the team was formed and it was expected to challenge for wins every week. However, the team finds themselves still seeking their first top-10 finish after eight races in the 2021 Cup Series season.

However, there are positive sides too for the 23XI team as Wallace led career-high 23 laps in the race at Martinsville. Speaking about his learnings, Wallace said:

“We’re figuring out what we need to secure those spots earlier in the race and go fight for something much greater than we have been.”

Wallace is also looking to learn from his co-owner Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick who can squeeze results even on their bad days.

“I feel like we are, maybe, three or four spots better every race that we have finished and it’s like, ‘Why are we not getting that?,’” he said.

“I look back on what I’m doing – putting ourselves in a predicament where it’s like, ‘Ahh, that was a little sketchy’ or getting damage to the car late and you have no chance.

“That is all coming and (I’m) getting a better understanding of that, for sure.”

Expectations are high for Wallace and his team. But he still has a lot of races to improve and get himself a win this season.
