Matt DiBenedetto to be without crew chief for crucial Martinsville race

Matt DiBenedetto Crew chief Greg Erwin is set to miss this weekend Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway for what his team deemed  “protocols.” Fox Sports NASCAR  reporter Bob Pockrass was first with the news that the decision was related to COVID-19, However it’s not clear whether Erwin has been tested positive.

The absence of Matt DiBenedetto‘s crew chief is expected to be “temporary,” one according to a main team official.

Gerg Erwin has been a crew chief since 2005. All five of his wins as the main man the box came with driver Greg Biffle from 2007-2010.

Jonathan Hassler will serve as Matt DiBenedetto’s crew chief over the weekend. Hassler is an engineer at Team Penske. He was working with Joey Logano‘s NO. 22 team last season.
