In a reshuffle within Joe Gibbs Racing, Kyle Busch’s crew chief had to move to become Christopher Bell’s crew chief.
Kyle Busch and his old crew chief Adam Stevens won two Cup titles together, in 2015 and 2019. However, they had to put an end to their association after the team decided to reshuffle the members. So, Busch began pairing with Ben Beshore and Stevens was assigned to the No. 20 team.
Three races into the 2021 Cup Series season, Stevens is already missing his old team and finds himself going to the No. 18 camp on a number of occasions during race day. He said:
“The #20 team is the #18 and the #18 is the #20. You should have seen me at Daytona, walking into the #18 truck. I ran out of excuses about why I was in there, about the fifth time. Talked to everybody, asked every question, sampled what food they had and I’m still walking in there.”
The 2020 season was not a good one for both Busch and Stevens as they had to wait until the playoffs to register their first Cup victory.
Let’s see if the reshuffle will bring good fortunes to both of them.
