With his dominance in road courses last season, Chase Elliott drew comparisons with one of the best road course racers Jeff Gordon.

The 2020 champion has won in the last five of his seven starts on the road course. Along with his four Cup championships, Gordon has won 9 road course races, the most of any driver.

Having worked with both the drivers, Elliott’s current crew chief Alan Gustafson pointed out the difference in style of racing on road courses for the two drivers.

“I think Jeff attacks the track a bit more, he was a bit more aggressive and attacking. And Chase, is a bit more smoother and flowy.

“I don’t know if that sounds kind of weird, but that’s a difference. Jeff would carry a lot of speed and then accelerate, you know his roll time was not very much.

“Where Chase is more flowy. He likes to roll and continuously carry speed and not have these big changes in speed.”

Elliott will be the favorite to win the upcoming Cup Series race at Daytona road course. Elliott will also be benefitted by having competed in Rolex 24 at Daytona.
