Denny Hamlin on his chances of winning the Daytona 500 for the third consecutive time

Having won Daytona 500 in the last two season, Denny Hamlin must be looking to make a hat-trick of wins in the one of the most prestigious races of the season.

Hamlin could set a new record of consecutive wins if he is able to drive to the victory lane in the upcoming Daytona 500. Richard Petty holds the record of most wins with seven, but he never won three races consecutively.

As for Hamlin, he has a total of three wins until now, in 2016, 2019 and 2020. Speaking to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about the possibility of adding to his Daytona 500 title, the Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 11 Toyota driver said:

“I think it’s as difficult as it’s ever been. The cars are closer together, especially with the aerodynamic package that we have now. It creates huge holes in the air, there’s more attrition than there’s ever been, more wrecks.”

Hamlin is of the opinion that the possibility of being caught in an accident is higher this season. He also said that winning the race needs a bit of fortune but it alone is not sufficient to get over the victory lane.

However, it won’t be Hamlin’s only target for the 2021 season. Having come close to winning his first Championship, with seven wins in the season and a place in the Championship 4 race, Hamlin came short in the season finale once again.

The JGR driver will be looking to finally add to his trophy collection that every Cup Series driver craves for in the 2021 season once again.
