Bubba Wallace said that he pissed off a lot of people during his endeavour to ban the Confederate flag from NASCAR.
Under his initiative, NASCAR took a major decision in banning the Confederate flag from the sports and the tracks. In this process, a number of people were angry against NASCAR’s decision.
Recollecting the events, Wallace said:
“I pissed a lot of people off.
“At the end of the day, I’m just a normal Joe that likes to have fun and race cars for a living. And that’s what I try to come across as, but, hey, when you start to speak on things that affect you in real life, people hate that. So now I’m hated. Oh well.”
Even after NASCAR took its decision, people protested by flying the Confederate flag above the race tracks. And Wallace accumulated a lot of haters for his actions.
“It’s sad to see that so many people are stuck in their ways and don’t want to change,” Wallace said. “And hey, I’m guilty of being afraid of change. I mean, you tell me to try something different at a restaurant that I’ve been going to for years, no. I’m not gonna do it. I don’t care how good it is…
“But when it comes to things about your neighbors, about human beings and what’s right, it’s just like, why don’t you want to do due diligence? And why don’t you want to reach out and figure out, ‘Hmm, what is he really, actually talking about?’ instead of assuming things and thinking that it’s this, and thinking that it’s that, when it has nothing to do with what you’re thinking of.”
Wallace’s actions on and off the field has led to a new Cup Series team, 23XI Racing, which will be debuting in the 2021 season.
