Eric Jones said that he will surprise a lot of people with the things that he can achieve with his new ride in the 2021 season.
Jones was let go by Joe Gibbs Racing to make way for Christopher Bell. He was taken up by Richard Petty Motorsports as a replacement for Bubba Wallace for the No. 43 Chevrolet.
Set to begin a new journey, Jones spoke about the goal for his 2021 campaign.
“I think the goal is just to continue to build and take what they’ve been able to work and improve on the last few years and just get better and better. And I think that their alliance with RCR has been really strong in the last few years and that’s helped them as well.
“I am excited to get over there and just kinda do something totally different, you know. Single-car team that’s working to get back to Victory Lane. That’s the ultimate goal obviously.”
While Jones has had a decent record in his Cup Series career, he will certainly be looking to prove the doubters wrong, more so for the way his JGR departure came about.
“I think there’s different tracks we can go accomplish that at, superspeedways, short tracks, road courses. So it’s going to be fun to go over there and work at that. For me, that’s an exciting opportunity.”
“And I think Jerry [Baxter] and I are on the same page that we’re both really looking forward to next year. And what we’re going to be able to go out and accomplish. With that car, I think it is gonna surprise a lot of people.”
Will Joe Gibbs Racing regret letting Erik Jones go?
