While Logano made it to the Championship 4 in the 2020 season, NASCAR analyst David Smith wants to see his 2019 version for the 2021 season.
Logano started the 2020 season brightly, winning Bluegreen Vacations Duel 1 at Daytona, and winning two Cup races in the first four race of the 2020 season.
However, his third win came in the first race of the Round of 8 at Kansas Speedway, thus booking his spot for the 2020 Championship 4 race.
Taking his 2020 performances into consideration, Smith would like to see Logano run races as he did in 2019.
“I don’t think he looked anything like he did in 2019… I thought he made a tremendous progression last season, was hoping to see that continue. He left races on the table.
“I’d like to see the return of the driver we saw in 2019 and at the end of 2018. I want that driver back. That was something special, just this ruthless, efficient mover. He rankles some folks when they watch him at his height. We need to see a return to that.
“A driver who disappears over the course of a race just ultimately isn’t all that competitive in the grand scheme. I think there is a more competitive Joey Logano to be had.”
