Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Tony Stewart revealed failed attempt to sign Kyle Larson for his team.
After his suspension was lifted, former Chip Ganassi Racing driver signed for Hendrick Motorsports. However, giving Stewart admiration for Larson, it seemed that he was the likely candidate to drive for Stewart in his team at one point in future.
Additionally, when the future of Clint Bowyer was uncertain with the team, leading to his retirement to move to FOX: Sports booth, it paved the way for Larson to make the long-awaited move.
However, Bowyer’s place was taken by Chase Briscoe and Larson signed with Hendrick Motorsports.
When Stewart posted an Instagram post dedicated to Bowyer, one fan commented:
“Shudda put larson in 14 car !! Lost out s&h racing.. Someone with no fear !! Who you got better ?? No one !! Dumbest..”
To which Stewart replied:
“Trust me I tried. Learn all of the details before you bash me. I tried for the last 4 years. Ford wouldn’t approve it. I TRIED.”
Only time will tell if SHR’s decision to not sign Larson will come back to haunt them.
