Bill Elliott knew that his son Chase would go on to win a Championship when he beat Martin Truex Jr. for his first Cup Series victory.

Chase became the third-youngest driver to win the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. He also made his name among the ranks of the father-son duo to win the championship.

While Chase might have won the championship earlier than many would have expected, his father knew for a long time that his son would win the championship. It was when Chase won his first Cup race in 2018. Bill said:

Bill also revealed how Elliott reacted before the must-win race at Martinsville.

“He’s like okay I got this. I got it together, I’ll figure out what I need. And then Alan (Gustafson) got together with him and gave him what he needs or what he wants.”

Chase has credited his father on numerous occasions for his success. As for Bill, he knows that his son has the capability to win races on his own and the best thing to do is to be supportive.

“Chase goes out and runs faster than all of those guys in his own line. I never said another word. I then felt like the best thing I could do is be supportive. All I do is after a race, I just suggest things, like I might have looked at this a little different.”
