NBA Legend and JTG Daugherty Racing tipped Denny Hamlin to win the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series championship.
Hamlin is looking to cap off an excellent year with his first Championship win. He will be competing against Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski and Chase Elliott in the season finale at Phoenix Raceway.
While the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was not at his best during the playoffs, Daugherty believes Hamlin has what it takes to win the championship. The JTG Daugherty Racing said:
“I think it’s Denny Hamlin. Even though he hasn’t performed up to the level that we’ve expected over the last several weeks. With some miscues and just a little bit of a lack of performance.”
“I just think he’s matured into that type of driver who’s not going to make the mistakes he’s made in the past. I just think he’s matured enough to take advantage of being continuously in the last four over the last several years.”
“This is his time. If Denny Hamlin doesn’t win a championship this year, he may never win a championship.”
Hamlin has recently said that the objective for his team has already been achieved even if he doesn’t win the championship. However, Daugherty feels that Hamlin is only deflecting the pressure.
“He’s trying to deflect, do those types of things. But you know from the whispers. ‘The greatest to never win a title’ and that type of talk.”
“The only way to dispel that is to go win the race this weekend. Or finish the race better than the other guys. I think Denny Hamlin is the guy,”
