Martin Truex. Jr might be one of the most consistent drivers in the past couple of races in the 2020 NASCAR season but at Richmond, he was surprised by his own consistency.

Truex finished the race as a distant runner up to the winner Brad Keselowski at Richmond Raceway. However, the driver didn’t expect to finish as high given the circumstances in the car.

“It was slow on the short run early and slow on the long run late,” Truex told NBCSN. “Somewhere in between we would be pretty competitive, but we just never could really put it all together.

“I was really surprised that we ran second with how it felt early in the race. I was like, ‘Oh boy, this is going to be a long night.’”

Truex is going through a consistent spell in terms of his finishes. In the last 10 races, he has only finished outside the top-five once, that being the Cup playoffs opener at Darlington Raceway.

Truex is currently 38 points above the cutline for the next round.
