Tony Stewart discusses SHR drivers lineup for 2021 season

Tony Stewart spoke about how his team Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) could lineup for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season and said that he would love to have Chase Briscoe as one of the drivers.

SHR have Kevin Harvick, Cole Cluster, Aric Almirola and Clint Bowyer as their drivers. However, Almirola and Bowyer are in the last year of their contract. When quizzed about whether SHR will have the same drivers lineup for 2021, Stewart said that he would love to have Chase Briscoe in the team. But since NASCAR allows only four drivers per team, one of the two drivers in the contract year might have to depart to make room for Briscoe. Stewart told Motorsport.com:

“We haven’t discussed making any changes yet. Obviously, we have Chase Briscoe in our system and he’s come a long way in a short amount of time this year and probably progressed faster than we even thought. We’re not in any rush to make any decisions or changes right now.

“We’re still focused on the four guys we’ve got and giving them the best race cars we can give them. I’m comfortable where we’re at. I wish we could have five Cup teams because I would love to move Chase into one of our Cup teams. But at the same time, I don’t think if he doesn’t get moved to a Cup car it’s bad for him.”

“I think it just gives him another year to get more experience. He’s young enough that he has plenty of time to accomplish his goals and dreams.”

It is also rumored that SHR could bring Kyle Larson into their team once his suspension is over. Additionally, Stewart has publicly backed Larson and asked NASCAR for his reinstatement.
