Chip Ganassi Racing announced that Phil Surgen will serve as the crew chief for Matt Kenseth’s team for the rest of the 2020 season. He replaces Chad Johnston for the remaining six regular-season races.

Serving as crew chief for the past four-and-a-half seasons on the No. 42 team, Johnston had six wins with Kyle Larson. He served as the crew chief for Matt Kenseth, who replaced Kyle Larson behind the No. 42, for 16 races.

According to a statement released by Chip Ganassi Racing:

“Phil Surgen has been named crew chief for the No. 42 team at Chip Ganassi Racing beginning this weekend at Michigan International Speedway and for the balance of the 2020 season. Surgen, who is currently a race engineer on the No. 42 team, has been with the team since 2016.”
