Bubba Wallace to become Richard Petty Motorsports’s partial owner?

According to David Smith of Forbes, Richard Petty Motorsports has offered an ownership stake to Bubba Wallace in a bid to tie him to their team beyond 2020.

Wallace is only tied to RPM for the 2020 season. Just a few days ago, Sports Business Journal’s Adam Stern twitted that Chip Ganassi Racing has emerged as a contender to take Wallace for the 2021 season.

However, with RPM offering partial ownership to Wallace, he might as well extend his contract beyond the 2020 season.

According to RPM’s team owner Andrew Murstein:

“We’re in discussions with him about an extension that includes ownership in the team.”

He added: “We went from probably having one meeting a week with a potential sponsor to five the last five weeks or so,” said Murstein. “I think Bubba is probably the most recognizable NASCAR driver now, other than Richard Petty. So, we’ve got probably the two most recognizable names in the sport. It’s a marketer’s dream.”
