In a release, NASCAR stated that the driver of the No.48 Chevrolet will be granted a playoff waiver.
“Jimmie is a true battle-tested champion, and we wish him well in his recovery. NASCAR has granted Jimmie a playoff waiver, and we look forward to his return as he races for an eighth NASCAR Cup Series championship.”
In order to qualify for the playoffs, Johnson will now have to win the race and finish the season in the top 30 or if he finishes inside the 16 playoff spots, without having to race in all the 26 regular-season races.
